To get started with the Insitome / Helix experience and receive your results, you will first need to complete a few steps. Follow along in the article or check out the following video about sample submission and preparation:

1. Register your kit

Creating an account and registering your kit to that account on Helix.com links your sample with your profile, and allows your results to be provided securely online. If you are participating with friends or family members, you will each need to register your own individual kits with Helix.

2. Setup your Insitome account

Upon registering your kit, you'll receive some emails from Helix, and one additional message from Insitome. The link contained within that message is an exclusive invitation to register for an account with us on Insito.me where your results will be provided to you (now and in the future). Apologies for the double-setup – we're working on making this easier in the future. 

Lost the email? No problem – just visit this forgot your password? page and enter the email that you used to register your kit on Helix.com – we'll take care of the rest.

3. Provide your saliva sample

Once your kit is registered, review the directions included in your kit before providing your sample. Following sample collection instructions will help ensure the quality and viability of your DNA. The saliva collection kit includes a buffer solution to stabilize the DNA and prevents bacterial contamination. Buffered samples are stable at a wide range of temperatures (-4ºF to 122ºF) for up to 6 months - but we recommend that you ship your collected sample to the laboratory at your earliest convenience.

4. Mail your kit

Domestic return shipping is prepaid at the time that a kit is purchased. Once you have registered your kit and provided your sample, drop the package off at any US Postal Service Mail Box (if shipping from within the United States). The box is already pre-addressed.

5. Keep track of your sample

Once your sample is in the mail, you can track its status from within your Insitome account. You will also receive email notifications for sample status updates, including when a kit is received at the lab and when your results are available in your account.

6. Learn about Insitome

At any point during the process, you can learn more about the information provided in your report by visiting the help center or contacting us!
